Foxio is built for children, so we owe you more than a paragraph buried in a privacy policy. This notice explains, in plain language, exactly what happens to your child's data. It sits alongside the Privacy Policy, which contains the formal detail required by the GDPR.
1.You hold the account, not your child
The contract is between Foxio and you, an adult. Your child is not our customer and cannot register, buy anything or agree to anything.
When you add a child to your account, you confirm that you hold parental responsibility for that child, or that you are otherwise authorised to act for them. On that basis you decide, on your child's behalf:
- what information about them we hold - and how little you give us;
- whether they get their own login;
- whether they may use the AI assistants;
- whether a photograph of them is ever uploaded;
- when all of it is deleted.
2.What Foxio knows about your child
Less than you might expect, and you control almost all of it.
| What | Where it comes from | Do you have to provide it? |
|---|---|---|
| Name or nickname | You type it | Yes, but a first name or nickname is enough - we recommend that |
| Age or year of birth | You type it | Yes - it decides which content is age-appropriate |
| Gender | You choose it | Used for story personalisation |
| Interests | You choose them | Optional - improves recommendations |
| Username and access code | You create them | Only if you give your child their own login |
| Progress, quiz and exam results | Created as your child learns | Automatic - it is what the progress view shows |
| Activity log: what was opened and for how long | Created automatically | Automatic - this is your parent dashboard |
| Assistant conversations | What your child types, if you enable the assistants | Only if the assistants are used |
| Photographs | You upload them in Story Studio | Never required - Story Studio works without a photo |
3.Child accounts: what your child can and cannot do
A child account is an optional login you create. Your child signs in with a username and a short code that you choose and can see at any time. There is no email address and no password recovery - you are the recovery mechanism.
| Your child can | Your child cannot |
|---|---|
| Open courses, storybooks and games | Buy anything, or see your payment details |
| Use the assistants, if you allow it | Change the plan or cancel a subscription |
| Earn points and badges | See your data, your other children's data, or your safety alerts |
| See their own progress | Change the account email or password |
| Read books you generated for them | Delete the account or invite anyone |
You can delete a child account, or a child profile, at any time from your profile page. Deletion is immediate and removes that child's login, progress and activity.
4.How the safety alerts work
This is the part most parents want to understand, so here it is step by step.
- Your child types a message to the Learning Assistant or the Family Assistant.
- Before any answer is generated, an automated classifier reads the message and judges whether it is safe for a child.
- If it is safe - which it almost always is - the assistant answers normally and nothing is recorded beyond the ordinary conversation.
- If it is not safe, the answer is blocked, and a safety flag is recorded: the category of concern, how serious it looks, the subject, and a short excerpt of what was written.
- We email you an alert. The excerpt is never in the email - anyone glancing at your inbox learns nothing. You sign in to read it.
- You see the full flag in your dashboard, and you decide what to do.
The categories are: sexual content, violence, self-harm, hate, dangerous activity, and other.
A flag in the self-harm category can reveal something about your child's mental health, which the law treats as especially sensitive. We handle it accordingly: it stays inside your family account, it is visible only to you, it is never used to profile or recommend anything, it is never shared with a school or an advertiser, and it is deleted after 24 months.
The classifier is not perfect. It sometimes blocks an innocent message - a question about a history lesson involving violence, for example. A wrongly blocked message has no consequence beyond that one answer not being given. Tell us if you see a pattern of mistakes and we will look into it.
5.Photographs in Story Studio
Story Studio can make the characters in a book look like your real family. To do that, you may upload a few photographs.
- You upload one to three photographs per character.
- An AI model produces a single stylised, illustrated portrait from each person's photographs.
- That illustrated portrait - not the photograph - is used as the reference for every page of the book.
- When the book is finished, the uploaded photographs are deleted from our storage.
Story Studio works perfectly well without any photograph - characters are then drawn from your written description. If you would rather not upload a picture of your child, do not; the book will still be about them.
6.Who can see your child's data
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| You, the account holder | Everything: profiles, progress, activity, assistant conversations, safety flags, generated books |
| Your child, in their child account | Their own content and progress. Not your data, not a sibling's data, not the safety flags |
| Other Foxio users | Nothing. Family data is technically isolated at the database level, not merely hidden in the interface |
| Foxio staff | Only where strictly needed to operate the service or answer a support request you raised, under confidentiality obligations |
| Our service providers | Only the specific data their function requires, under GDPR Article 28 contracts. Listed in the Privacy Policy |
| Schools, advertisers, data brokers | Nothing. We do not sell or share children's data, ever |
7.AI content and children
The assistants, the stories, the practice exercises and the narration are all generated by AI. Two consequences matter for a child:
- It can be wrong. A confident, fluent answer can still be incorrect. Children are less able than adults to spot this. Treat assistant answers as a starting point for a conversation, not as a fact.
- Safety screening is not a guarantee. We block what we can detect. We recommend children use the assistants where an adult is around, especially younger children.
Your child's conversations are not used to train AI models. We require this of our providers by contract.
8.Exercising your child's rights
Your child has the same data protection rights as anyone else - access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection. While they are a minor, you exercise those rights for them.
Most of it you can do yourself, immediately:
| What you want | How |
|---|---|
| Correct a name, age or interest | Profile page - edit the child profile |
| Delete a child profile and its progress | Profile page - delete the child |
| Remove a child's login | Profile page - delete the child account |
| Delete a generated book and its images | Story Studio - delete the book |
| Delete an assistant conversation | The assistant - delete the session |
| Delete everything, including your own account | Profile page - delete account |
| A copy of all data we hold about your child | Email privacy@foxio.eu |
We answer written requests within one month. As your child grows up, they may exercise these rights themselves - and if a former child user contacts us directly, we will help them, taking care not to disclose anyone else's data in the process.
9.Talking to us
If anything here worries you, or if you think we have got something wrong, write to privacy@foxio.eu. A person reads it.
You may also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (NAIH) (https://naih.hu), and you can equally go to the authority in the country where you live.
